This weekend I got a new 50 mm 1.8 lens (long story short I will have a 1.4 later this week instead). So, I went out and played around to see what all the hype was about with fixed 50mm lenses.

The hype, to me, is clear. The images are much sharper (I don't generally add sharpness in editing). Especially the closer portraits are just impeccable. There's no contest with my 70-200 mm that I usually have firmly cemented to my camera.

My only beef is that I have to actually move to zoom. Not a huge issue because I do love what it does but still.
