Barcelona

This weekend some friends and I flew to Barcelona for a few days.

It is incredibly different from Rome even though it's right over the water. Whereas Rome has very few chain restaurants/stores (zero Starbucks, but an occasional McDonald's), Barcelona has as many chains as non chains. The people are also quite diverse in Barcelona. Rome has a very homogenous population, and anyone who doesn't have dark hair, olive skin, and partakes in their unspoken dress code is immediately suspect to be foreign.

Luckily, against what everyone told me, Spanish was quite common as a spoken language. Also, the weather was beyond ideal. So, that was fantastic.

As per usual I did my photographer thing, and I took portraits of my friends in their hotel lobby.

Those were so easy to take! We had two people googling directions to the Pablo Picasso museum, and I would just snag one at a time for a couple minutes.

And because they're probably my favorite things to look at and study...Here are a few befores and afters.

Double click on the image to see a couple more.

Hope you enjoyed this little set as much as I did!

Photography Club

I've started a photography club at JCU recently because for some ridiculous reason there was not one previously. Have you seen this city? We need a photo club.

Yesterday, we had a beautiful day, and photography club was scheduled. It was indescribably perfect. So, we walked to the Vatican and up Gianicolo Hill.

Florence

Last weekend, I went to Florence on a day trip with Bus2Alps. This city was amazing, and I see why it's more popular for study abroad than Rome.

In this little collage you can find the best cappuccino I have ever consumed. This was at Circus Cafe in Florence, and every time I ever step foot on Florence soil I am making my way back to that cafe to get another one.

You can also see a stop sign that has what looks like graffiti? on it. It's a thing in Florence that a local artist puts stickers on the stop signs to make them more interesting. God bless that fellow. Making stop signs into art. Brilliant.

Here's me sipping on some espresso based goodness. Not particularly special, but still perfectly caffeinated.

Here we have some of the more beautiful locations in Florence. Duomo, the view from Ponte Vecchio, and the view from Piazzale Michaelangelo.

Last but not least, the image above is my favorite photoshop conquest. I took the picture of Alex at the Duomo in Florence, and then I photoshopped him into the Hunger Games.

I think this image generated the most interest of any image I have ever posted on Facebook.

Portraits in Rome

For the last couple of weeks whenever I go out and have my camera all my friends get new profile pictures.

Here are my favorite images from the last couple weeks.

Yesterday, Rachel and I were walking around in the rain, and we ran into this lovely unguarded entry way. So, naturally we hopped in for a couple minutes to take pictures.

A few minutes later we were shooed out, but luckily, there are many more entry ways like this one.

And below you see another entryway we found similar to the first. They're really everywhere. It's a popular architectural choice around here.

I am currently working to start a photography club at John Cabot, and last week was our first outting to take pictures.

Apart from having some wonky setting make the first half of my images useless I still managed to snag a couple good ones.

Unfortunately, people don't like having their picture taken without consent. So, as far as my random people photography goes we will have to settle for back-of-the-head and far away shots.

The next two are a couple friends, and we were walking around shopping in Rome when I found this lovely court yard.
