Coffey Family

This week I had the honor of shooting the Coffey Family for the second year. They braved the heat with me, and somehow we avoided the scattered showers.

These lovely people were the winners of my New Years giveaway back in January and received a complimentary session.

More images can be found on my Facebook page (usually more are found on my blog, but just this once....), but here are my favorites!

HAIR!!

Today, I left Olive Garden and came home to be sick at home. I think it's highly unethical to be handling food when I'm sick. However, I am perfectly mobile. So,  I did what I do and took some photos.

I got crrraazzy inspired, and kept changing the plan of the pictures until suddenly I was doing this...

I had found my sister's extensions, and I braided them into my hair to make it HILARIOUSLY long.

New lens

This weekend I got a new 50 mm 1.8 lens (long story short I will have a 1.4 later this week instead). So, I went out and played around to see what all the hype was about with fixed 50mm lenses.

The hype, to me, is clear. The images are much sharper (I don't generally add sharpness in editing). Especially the closer portraits are just impeccable. There's no contest with my 70-200 mm that I usually have firmly cemented to my camera.

My only beef is that I have to actually move to zoom. Not a huge issue because I do love what it does but still.

Compositing

Today, I have my homework done (class started this week), and I don't have to be at work until 5. Home alone with the cat and a barrel of coffee. What's a girl to do?

Obviously, when it's me considered there is only one option. Edit edit edit. When I don't have other people to edit I pop the camera onto a stack of books and take self portraits.

When I get tired of the standard selfie I think, "Hmm, what can I do with Photoshop?" The answer: whatever I want.

Below is the breakdown of what images I took to get the final piece puzzled together. What did I want from the picture?

1. Elegant and gravity defying torso, legs, arms, and hair.

2. a cute dress

3. back lighting

4. some sort of pedestal to separate me from the clutter in my bedroom

I cleared off my desk, tossed on a dress, and made sure I took a decent photograph of every important element of the picture.

Once I had the images combined I cropped and cloned out the junk in the room.

Simple.
